Dhanterus – welcoming prosperity and good luck

Dhanterus started Diwali’s Grand Five-Day Festival. It is celebrated on the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha (Tredoshi) in the month of Kartika, usually falling in October or November. The word “wealth” comes from “wealth” which means wealth and “thirteen” means the thirteenth day. This day is dedicated to wealth, prosperity and welfare, which makes it one of the most important days in the Hindu calendar.

Importance of Dhanterus

Dhantaras has deep religious and cultural significance. According to Hindu mythology, during the great churning of the ocean (Samudra churning), many divine treasures appeared, and on this day, Lord Dhanwantari – Ayurveda and the god of health appeared with a utensil of the nectar. For this reason, Dhanterus is also celebrated as National Ayurveda Day in India.

Another belief is that Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, visits the houses on Dhants. People clean, decorate and clean light lamps to welcome her blessings. In some houses, Lord Kubera, the treasurer of the gods, are also worshiped with Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity.

Traditions and rituals of wealth

Dhants are celebrated with devotion and bliss. After this day, rituals highlight the importance of health, wealth and happiness.

Cleaning and decorating houses – people clean their homes thoroughly, as it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi enters clean and decorated houses. Color rangoli design and toron (decorative hanging) beautify the door to attract positive energy.

Lighting diyas – In the evening, families bring DIYAS (earthen lamps) to light to remove darkness and invite prosperity. Many people keep burning a special lamp overnight to remove negative energy.

Buying precious items – It is considered very auspicious for buying gold, silver, utensils, or new items on this day. This act is believed to bring money and good fortune to the house. In modern times, people also buy electronic equipment, vehicles or household items.

Lakshmi and Kubera Puja – In the evening, devotees perform a special puja for Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera. Sweets, flowers and coins are offered, and prayers are called for financial development and stability.

Health and welfare-Since the day is also associated with Lord Dhanwantari, people pray for good health and longevity, reminding everyone that health is the biggest wealth.

Regional variations

All over India, Dhantaus is celebrated in a unique way. In Maharashtra, small clay idols of Dhanwantari are worshiped. In Gujarat, people decorate their commercial places and start new account books on this day, consider it the beginning of a new financial year. In southern India, special lamps are burnt to honor Lord Yama, the god of death, demanding protection from untimely death.

Modern meaning of donor

In today’s time, Dhanaras is not only about rituals and shopping; It is also about family relations and preparation for Diwali celebrations. Many families exchange gifts and sweets, marking the day with love and solidarity. People are also becoming more aware, focusing on meaningful purchases for environmentally friendly DIYAS rather than plastic lights and instead of useless expenses.

Another growing tendency is to give charitable. On Dhanterus, some people donate food, clothes, or money to the needy people, spread happiness and prosperity beyond their families. This reflects the true spirit of the festival – sharing and taking care.

conclusion

Dhanteras is a festival that combines tradition, spirituality and bliss. It reminds us that money is not only about money or property, but also about health, happiness and family. People welcome Goddess Lakshmi’s blessings in their homes and life by illuminating Diyas, performing rituals, and celebrating together.

As we celebrate Dhanterus this year, let us not only embrace physical prosperity, but also good health, positive energy and prosperity of kindness. A heart filled with gratitude and a house full of light is true wealth that Dhanterus inspires us to cherish.
